Pilates is a form of exercise which concentrates on strengthening the core, which includes muscles of the abdomen, low back, and hips, often referred to as the "powerhouse", key to a person's stability. Pilates improves flexibility, builds strength and develops control and endurance in the entire body, by emphasizing body alignment, breathing, posture coordination and balance, all of which are important in the aging process.
